Membership Renewal
By: Richard Kurzyca

The online membership renewal and payment process is now available on the website. It is very easy to use and fully auditable.

Please login to the ‘members’ area and it will automatically bring up a renewal ribbon that you follow to make payment.  During your renewal process there are simple ‘drop-down’ boxes to confirm or edit your membership details. The payment process uses ‘GoCardless’ which has been used for the past three years for renewals and found to be accurate and efficient.

If you have previously used GoCardless to renew your Club membership, then you will receive one email from GoCardless giving details of the amount and date of payment.

If this is the first time you have used this renewal system, then you will find details about GoCardless as you progress through the renewal procedure.  As part of the renewal process, you will receive two emails from GoCardless: the first saying that your payment has been set-up, the second giving details of the amount and date on which your bank account will be debited.

You will also see details on the Club’s website telling you the status of your renewal process.  This year’s fee structure is shown below and has already been programmed into the process. The fees below are for the year 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 and were agreed at the AGM held in February 2024:

Membership fees:

Family £306

Senior £185

Junior and extended junior £97

Associate £65

Berth fees:

Flying Fifteen £125

Senior boat £90

For any membership queries please go to the ‘Contact’ section on the Club’s website and select Membership Enquiry from the drop-down box; Richard Kurzyca will respond.

Similarly, for any website logging in difficulties, select Website Problem and Graeme McCormack will respond.

Sailing Programme and Duties.
By: Richard Kurzyca

The sailing programme and duties for April 2024 to March 2025 are now available on the website.

Please note that there has been a significant change to racing on Saturdays.  Commencing in April, Saturday racing will comprise 3 races; the first to start at 12.00, the second to start at 13.00 (effectively back-to-back races, each with a duration of about 45 minutes), and the third race to start at 14.15.

Sunday racing, the times and structure (back-to-back races in the morning) are unaltered.

For both Saturday and Sunday races, the length of each series has increased.  Previously, a race series would last about five weeks; this has increased to six or seven weeks.  For example, a seven weeks’ series will involve 14 back-to-back races with 10 races to count, and the associated afternoon races will have seven races with five to count.

Safety
By: Richard Kurzyca

Safety boat.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure that there are sufficient people available to cover all racing duties.  There may be conditions when the weather is benign, and the race officer may take the view that one person in the rescue boat is sufficient.  In these circumstances, the ‘box’ should not be used for racing.

Generally, however, for the safety of all sailors, it is important that there are two people in the rescue boat.  If, in the race officer’s opinion, safety cover is inadequate for the prevailing weather conditions, then racing should be cancelled.

Clothing.  Please ensure you are wearing appropriate clothing, particularly as the weather and water are getting colder.  I wonder how many sailors have thought it will never happen to them; better to assume that you will get wet, will have to spend a few minutes in the cold water, and wear appropriate clothing.

A big thank you to everyone who made it down on Sunday.

Lots of jobs were completed. FF crane, fence cleared, changing room repainted, patio weeded and cleared of all rubbish and the revamp of the clubhouse has begun with painting the doors, bar frontage and skirting boards.

A special mention to Sarah and Tony for supplying an excellent lunch for all who attended.

Bonfire and fireworks evening was a great success with over 60 people there. Thanks to Steve and helpers for a fantastic bonfire, Martin and helpers for a spectaclular firework display, Sarah and Tony for more excellent food and finally Robin for looking after the bar.

Next event is a Quiz night on the 9th December alll details on club social whatsup.
