The primary emphasis in our youth and beginners programme is on having fun and improving sailing skills. There is no compulsion to race. We do not believe in 'hot-housing' future champions or pressure to join squads or compete on the circuit. At the same time coaching and youth racing is available for those who want to hone their competitive skills and many of our youth sailors have gone on to achieve great success at regional, national and world level.
Each August we hold a youth week where all levels of ability join in and have a great time. We provide training and courses in the morning for youth sailors from 8-18 ages, where a number of children have the opportunity to complete their RYA start sailing certificates.
We offer youth sailing on a Saturday morning from March to October. Take a look at our youth calendar to find out when out next youth sailing event is taking place.
Each afternoon we run an informal race to allow for what has been learnt in the morning to be put into practice and each year there is a prize giving to reward a number of achievements, not just for those claiming the top spots!
Purchasing your own boat when you first join is not essential. We have several club boats, including Oppies, Toppers, Laser Pico's, a GP14 and a Wayferer which can be hired for a day (a half day hire option is available). This will allow you to work out if sailing is the sport for your child, and which boat best suits them. Please note that boat rental is not available for a prolonged period due to demand.
For those youth who already have their own boat, and are already interested in racing, we run advanced race training focusing on making your boat go faster, and have races along side the adults to hone skills, which have proved very popular in the past.
As you can see, we have it all covered.
